What Did You Think Of This Week's Issue? 🤔 |
😱 Careful What You Wish For… [True Story]
When I came home from college, I worked with my dad.
One day, my buddy Ron and I, were in the lunchroom, talking about the topic of the Gulf War came up.
We thought there might be a draft, and we started joking about it.
I asked Ron, “How are you going to get out of the war?”
He laughed and said, “I’ll just cut my thumbs off.”
At the time, he was working a beam press—a massive machine that comes down hard and fast, controlled by a foot pedal.
You had to stay focused; if you didn’t, it could do some serious damage.
Then he asked, “What about you?”
Jokingly, I replied, “Oh, I’ll just catch TB.”
I have no idea why I said that, but it just came out.
Not long after, Ron had a serious accident with that beam press.
I was the one who picked him up off the floor, wrapped his hands in a towel, and rushed him to the hospital.
It was a huge facility, so it took a while to get him there.
They managed to reattach one thumb, but he lost the other.
Unfortunately, because they didn’t see him right away, even the reattachment was more complicated than it should have been.
And then, just a week or two later, I actually did catch TB…
I didn’t know what it was at first, but I ended up hospitalized, and it affected my life for the next year and a half.
Anyway, be careful what you wish for.
We were joking around, but life had other plans.
There’s more to the story about how we turned a bad situation around, but I’ll save that for another time.
Enjoy the rest of the newsletter.

🤖 SearchGPT is Finally Here… Here’s How to Optimize Your Listing
1. Focus on Content Depth and Relevance
LLMs prioritize relevance, which means surface-level content will not perform as well as comprehensive resources that answer specific questions. Create content that goes beyond basic descriptions by addressing your product’s unique aspects, its use cases, target audience and common customer inquiries. For example, if you sell fitness gear, consider creating guides on exercise routines or solutions to common fitness challenges. Amazon Sellers who have been optimizing content for COSMO will be familiar with such a semantic approach.
Practical Tips:
Address specific questions that customers might have.
Use subheadings to make sections clear and accessible.
Focus on creating contextually rich, relevant information rather than simply relying on keywords.
Example: A page on “resistance bands” could include sections on “different exercises with resistance bands,” “how to choose the right resistance level,” and “common mistakes to avoid.”
SearchGPT prioritizes authoritative sources, so building brand recognition through digital PR and credible reviews is essential. Collaborate with trusted sources or secure mentions from authoritative websites.
Practical Tips:
Partner with well-regarded sources for mentions and features.
Encourage detailed customer reviews on recognized platforms.
Consider establishing a Wikipedia page for your business as a signal of authority.
Example: A skincare brand can boost authority by collaborating with dermatologists or being featured in health publications.
3. Optimize for E-E-A-T (Experience, Expertise, Authority, Trustworthiness)
The principles of E-E-A-T are essential in the LLM search landscape. Content that conveys expertise, authority, and trustworthiness is more likely to rank well. Enhance this by including factual data, expert insights, and structured content like comparisons and reviews.
Practical Tips:
Add expert opinions, statistics, and factual data.
Use comparative lists, side-by-side specifications, and authentic testimonials to boost your content’s expertise.
Example: A tech store could provide a “smartphone comparison guide” with detailed specifications, pros and cons, and links to verified expert reviews.
4. Structure Content for Quick Digestibility
LLMs are more likely to prioritize content that is clearly structured and easy to digest. By presenting a summary at the beginning and organizing information clearly, you increase the chances of being recognized and favored by SearchGPT.
Practical Tips:
Start with a TL;DR summary at the top of long-form content.
Use headers and bullet points to simplify complex information.
End with a summary or call to action to reinforce key points.
Example: A product page for hiking boots could start with “Top Features for Hikers” and then go into individual sections covering durability, waterproofing, and comfort.

WHAT YOU MISSED LAST WEEK
TikTok Shop - How to Start Selling in 2024 | Kelsey Farrar
Here’s 7 Takeaways From This Episode:
Choose Products with Visual and Demonstrative Appeal:
Evaluate your product for its visual potential. If you can show a “before and after” effect or a unique use case, highlight that in your TikTok Shop listing to grab attention.
Research Product Demand on TikTok:
Ensure Adequate Inventory and Samples:
Start with 500 units of inventory for products with potential to go viral. Prepare a budget to send out at least 100 product samples to targeted influencers to seed content and ensure steady engagement.
Set Up Affiliate Commissions Strategically:
Set your base affiliate commission rate at 15% for open campaigns, and consider offering higher rates (e.g., 30–40%) for targeted campaigns involving larger or more active influencers.
Build a Content Library for Creator Guidance:
Begin by creating a set of sample videos or image assets that demonstrate your product’s unique value. Share these with creators to ensure consistency in messaging and quality.
Optimize Listings with 15% Discount and $20 Minimum Price:
Set a minimum price of $20 and a 15% discount on your listing to attract purchases and highlight the discount in your content to encourage quick purchases.
Use Spark Ads to Boost Successful Creator Content:
Identify creator content that performs well, and request a Spark code from those creators to boost the content with ad spend. This allows you to amplify high-performing videos for greater reach.
Reach Out to Targeted Influencers Manually:
For high-value creators, reach out directly with a personalized message. Mention why you think they’re a good fit and offer an above-average commission or additional perks to incentivize participation.
Engage with Your Creator Community Regularly:
Maintain ongoing communication with top creators and consider setting up a private group (e.g., on Discord) to share campaign updates, provide incentives, and encourage collaboration among affiliates.
